Worn Out: Crashing Fort Reno
Posted by Joshua Yospyn | July 22, 2010
In case you’re not familiar with Fort Reno, every summer for decades there have been concerts a few blocks from the Tenleytown metro station on Monday and Thursday evenings. I first started going several years ago and the process worked like this:
- Drive or metro to Guapo’s for margaritas by 6:30 pm;
- Pay bill and walk to Fort Reno’s field by 7:30 pm;
- Commit to watching at least two of the bands;
- Gaze at smoke bomb plumes wafting out of the porta-potty;
- Feel kinda old since the field contains a lot of high school students;
- Hit the ice cream truck to feel young again; and
- Get tired from the margaritas and head home.
More recently, this routine has been replaced by working with photographer Matt Dunn and Siggy to capture as many concert goers as possible before and after dark (last week also involved enjoying the sounds of Ra Ra Rasputin). This year’s concerts began on June 28th and end August 12th. Check out Fort Reno’s schedule to learn which local bands are performing.

Funny how I’ve known about these concerts for a few years but have never put forth a decent effort to actually attend. I’m inspired to definitely go next week. Maybe I’ll bump into you. Great series, these are really fun shots.
Recently I think people forgot about it because of the arsenic scare. The field was closed down for a while but opened back up earlier this year.
Will not miss the next one!
