Introducing the Chocolatier
Posted by Joshua Yospyn | June 23, 2010
For the past three weeks we’ve been following Katie Musser, chocolatier at Co Co Sala, as she prepared for Sweet Charity‘s Des Alpes Chocolate Fashion Show. Hosted by The Heart of America Foundation and Albert Uster Imports, this one-of-a-kind charity event raises money to supply books for metro DC schools and libraries. Katie’s chosen theme was Cruella de Vil, complete with dalmatian, worn by Miss District of Columbia 2009 and assembled through a uniquely detailed process combining sweets and fabric.
From start to finish, we’ll bring you the full story in the next print edition of Worn Magazine. I was given carte blanche to photograph inside Co Co Sala, a chocolate lounge based in Chinatown, since the beginning of June, but a large part of this tale happens outside the restaurant, whether at the dog park in Dupont Circle, Jo-Ann Fabric, Cleveland Elementary School or the Mandarin Oriental dressing room.
It was a wild ride where fashion and art collided into an award-winning performance. Cruella took home first prize and we couldn’t be happier for the chocolatier. Want to hear more? Join us on Sunday and let’s talk chocolate. [See part 2 and part 3 of this story]
