Worn Photography in 51 Portraits of DC Competition

Posted by Joshua Yospyn | April 22, 2010

Join a wealth of talented photographers and myself from 7-9pm on Tuesday, April 27 at Social in Columbia Heights for an exhibition of 51 portraits selected to represent the diverse beauty in the faces of DC residents.  Three of my portraits were chosen for this competition, including one we placed in Worn Magazine’s print edition of Christylez Bacon, a talented musician and 2010 Grammy nominee.

All three photographs are street portraits of total strangers I met in DC and, fortunately, found again later to sign model releases required by the competition.  Thus I’m very grateful to Christylez, Katie and Ernest for allowing me to share their portraits (personally, I think each of them possess a style befitting the Grammys).  Each image was produced from a CCD scan of 6×7 medium format film.

The contest is organized by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, DC Counts and FotoWeek DC.  In addition to Social, these portraits will be on display at the Washington Convention Center and other public venues.  This is a real honor for me and I’m excited my photography is a part of it, plus a big thank you to Gloria Nauden and Zoma Wallace at the Commission for putting on this exhibition.  Social is located at 1400 Meridian Place, NW on the 3400 Block of 14th Street.  See you there Tuesday night!
