Worn Out: The Buzz Cut
Posted by Joshua Yospyn | April 23, 2010
Christina is a George Washington University student who shaved her head to raise money for kids with cancer. I first spotted her in Dupont Circle (déjà vu anyone?) and it took me five blocks to chase her down. I trotted up New Hampshire, through Corcoran, up 17th, across R, past 16th and then just before 14th I finally reached her. A half mile. She’s a fast walker.
She also writes a new music blog called MmmHmmMusic. After going through her posts I discovered “JJ,” a Swedish indie-pop band (check out a song called Ecstasy). Plus her blog refreshed my memory of Air France. Air France has a remix of a Friendly Fires song called “Skeleton Boy,” which I also recommend. If you want to get my ear, know that I’m a sucker for French or Swedish trip-hop.
Anyway, I see Audrey Hepburn in her gaze but I’m most reminded of Natalie Portman when she shaved her head in V for Vendetta. Hollywood aside, Christina’s karma is also abuzz. You did a very cool thing for those kids.
