Up Close with DECOY, Part 2
Posted by Joshua Yospyn | April 30, 2010
In the print edition of Worn Magazine we interview and photograph DECOY, a DC artist who moved from alley to gallery but still keeps a big hand on the street. Also a professor of art at the Fridge DC on Capitol Hill, Alicia gave us too many images to choose from. I photographed her in a studio setting with her trademark red hoodie, but the hardcopy magazine features scenes from her home studio.
Of all the portraits we have of DECOY, this is my favorite. To me, it represents the anonymity that street artists so often prefer and my understanding of their public work as an illegal act. But it also shows you two sides of DECOY. The artist who gets her hands dirty to create beautiful paintings and posters, yet has her fingertips on a self-styled vogue.
